Several netizens noted that popular porn sites such as PornHub, Xvideos and Red Tube were blocked for supposedly violating the anti-child pornography law. “This website has been ordered blocked under authority of the Philippine Government pursuant to Republic Act 9775 or the Anti-Child Pornography Law,” read the message on the blocked sites. Users noted the block appeared to be limited to subscribers of Smart and Sun Cellular mobile data. Globe subscribers, on the other hand, were able to access the sites as of yesterday. No official statement from Smart has been issued regarding the block. In 2014, the National Telecommunications Commission issued a memorandum directing internet service providers to block access to porn sites for violating the anti-child pornography law. Earlier this month, PornHub said Filipino viewers spent an average of 12 minutes and 45 seconds on the site for each visit last year, the longest among its global users. – Janvic Mateo
